So why another support group and why in Southern West Virginia and Virginia area?

Currently in the state of West Virginia there are few, if any protections of trans and non-binary persons. In southern WV/VA, there isn’t any outlets for trans people to converse, make friendships or navigate resources in an area that still deem us non existent here.

So far this year, 2019, through TMP, we’ve have been made aware of several suicide attempts of trans individuals in Mercer, Raleigh, McDowell and Tazewell counties. All survived thankfully, yet the ages range from 9 years old to 36. This is not acceptable for any area, but for an area with a few out trans people who have beaten the odds it’s our duty to play a pivotal role in the development of other trans people, or we are only part of the alarming problem.

It’s been proven, not only in my life, but countless other trans people, especially those in the beginning stages of understanding who they are that a support system, and comradery is the first line of defense in these situations.

This is where S.W.A.T, Southern West Virginia/Virginia, hopes to make a difference. Our goals are to connect the local trans community in order to have a support network to combat potential suicides. A list of resources will be created here on The TMPlanet, for current and future trans people to find understanding medical staff, doctors, clinics and therapist. Without overlooking the most important aspect of a trans support group by building friendships.

Our First meeting will be held August 31st, Saturday at 8pm. Location will be @ Soul Vapor Vape Shop, the first trans owned and operated business in Mercer County , WV.
